FAQs

What is the Premier's Physical Activity Council?
The Premier's Physical Activity Council was formed in June 2001 to address physical inactivity in Tasmania. The formation of the council has been a positive response to meet the requirements of the Tasmania Together Goal 4 to 'develop an approach to health and wellbeing that focuses on preventing poor health and encouraging healthy lifestyles'. The Council led the development of a state-wide physical activity plan to guide Tasmanians towards becoming more active. With a vision for 'all Tasmanians to participate in physical activity as a regular part of their lifestyle', the council works towards achieving the goals of the Tasmanian Physical Activity Plan LIVE LIFE get moving which aim to strengthen the promotion and development of physical activity opportunities, through the provision of information, creation of supportive environments and physical activity programs.

What needs to be done after the event?
After completing the walk you will need to send some information to the Premier's Physical Activity Council. You can find out what you need to send by clicking here.

Will the list of participant names be published?
No. The list of participant names will be kept strictly confidential and will not be printed or published; it is necessary solely for verification purposes.

When will we know if we broke the Guinness World Record?
The Premier's Physical Activity Taskforce in Western Australia will update the website as soon as all the results have been collated and it is confirmed by Guinness if Australia broke the record. We hope this to be complete by mid-October.

Our walk was featured by the media and/or we took photos of the walkers at our venue, what should we do with these items?
Please send us any photos, newspaper clippings or media information that you would like to share.

Can we continue the momentum of walking and physical activity once the event is over?
YES, in fact we strongly encourage it. Tasmanians are not active enough. We hope the challenge will be used as a kick-off to increase opportunities for Tasmanians to be physically active. There are a number of initiatives and strategies in place regarding walking and other physical activities in the community. Please contact your Local Government, school or the Premier's Physical Activity Council if you would like more information on being physically active.
